one thing about steven universe i’m surprised i’ve not seen anyone praise yet is how they had an episode where the childish protagonist slacks off, gets distracted, parties with his friends, and his actions lead to something dangerous and he nearly gets hurt, and instead of him being reprimanded for thinking he could get away from responsibilities and hang out with his friends, and having the episode present a moral of ‘never slack off how dare you’, (a thing which has been done in literally every kid’s show ever probably,) the show instead had his friends defending him and saying that he’s got a lot of stresses put on him and he needs time to be a kid and have fun, and the other characters agree with that. do you know how important it is that a kids show says it’s ok for kids to have time to relax and be kids instead of the narrative contributing to the endless dogma of ‘work, children, work’?!
