A 15 year old black girl has been violently assaulted and tackled to the ground at her school, Spring Valley High SC, by a cop just because she didn’t want to leave the classroom. Her classmates are saying they were concerned for their own safety if they were to stand up for her. There’s a longer video somewhere showing the cop telling a student if they try to do anything he’ll have them arrested. Some students are saying the cop, Ben Fields, has a history of brutalising black students.
Media outlets are already referring to it as a fight and a confrontation between the student and officer as though it wasn’t entirely one sided.
I don’t know the young girls name (probably because she’s 15 and for safety purposes?) but the hashtag is #AssaultAtSpringValleyHigh because people seem be misconstruing it for anything than what it is - a violent, unnecessary, racist attack on a child.
first they tried to say she was being “verbally disruptive” which is already iffy as hell because why would you call a cop to the classroom because a kid won’t stop talking? you can write them up, suspend them, a number of disciplinary actions can be taken that don’t involve a cop for an offense that isn’t physical or a physical threat. BUT… the students in the class say she’s quiet and wasn’t saying anything. so i’m really trying to see how they justify her being asked to leave the class and definitely how the hell they explain involving a cop. like…. the teacher and administrator have to be held accountable for even involving a cop in the first place.
