I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos so much. It makes me happy. And believe me, I need some cheering up right now. So thanks.
On the topic of Lapis and Jasper, I completely agree. I can almost understand why the writing leaves things so ambiguous. Because they want to be clear that Lapis is not the sole abuser. Soldier or not, Jasper did hold her captive. But, and I’ve said it before, and will say it again, it irks me that so many fans of the show insist that Lapis was the victim the entire time, even as part of Malachite, despite that we saw her abusing Jasper, and she confessed to abusing Jasper and liking it in Alone At Sea.
The main argument that I see people using to defend Lapis in this situation is that Jasper came back and claimed that she could change, and that’s something that abusers often do when their victims leave. But sometimes the victim blames themselves for the abuse, and thinks that they have to be better for their abuser.
It’s one of the reasons why I want a Jasper redemption so badly. I’m tired of some parts of the fandom demonizing her because she’s big and burly, and because they think that she hurt their conventionally attractive water princess. It’s like you said: both Jasper and Lapis are written, just like every character in the show, like real people with real, sometimes deep and frightening, flaws. Jasper abused Lapis by keeping her prisoner, but Lapis also made a choice to abuse Jasper to make herself feel better for something that Jasper didn’t do. They are both at fault. I want to see that addressed.
