Carl Barks reference aside, this was one of the strongest scenes in the series so far. Scrooge knows what he’s done, he knows that he’s repeating history as he ostracizes every member of his family. Whether he’s doing it to protect himself or protect them can be put up for debate, but it’s practically impossible to deny the grief he’s feeling in this scene.
The animation in this scene is beyond phenomenal. The emotions on Scrooge’s face are so palpable and painful to see. But the animation is only so good as the voice-acting, and this line never fails to give me chills.
This scene ends with Scrooge’s greatest lie - that he wants to be alone.
