madoka magica is a magical girl show that came out in 2011, it was basically a deconstruction of the genre that was a lot darker than most magical girl shows, which were USUALLY cutsie and upbeat. not that there havent been more mature ones before that, but madoka magica was a huge hit, and imo it was a good show too. not that it doesnt have its fair share of problems, but the issue was that it spawned a lot of copycats and a lot of the people ignored that the point of the show was “GIRLS SHOULDNT HAVE TO SUFFER TO GET WHAT THEY WANT” and just decided “girls suffering sells” and sadly, it does, because nerdboys eat that shit up.
