not to be political on main but i hope everyone knows that the situation for lgbt rights in canada is shaky at best. like, i know yall hear about (and, lmao, ignore) posts about its environmental issues and indigenous relations, but you can add this onto the pile. 

the number one university in my province (ubc) just got banned from pride because it let an anti-sogi (sogi’s a program for lgbt discussion and inclusive environments in the education system) speaker present on-campus. this presenter has collaborated with anti-immigrant groups in the past.

this just happened. again, ubc, a top university, allowed someone who thinks educating children about the lgbt community is “an assault on parental rights, freedom of religion, and freedom of conscience”

i know yall like to ignore posts about canada and its problems, but just know there are so, so many. recently one of my province’s biggest women’s shelters lost funding because of, you guessed it, brutal transphobia. 

this country isnt some gay paradise just because it legalized marriage before the US. it still has problems. lmao
