I once had someone go “Brazil? That’s in Africa, right?” and I, a Brazilian, had to go “No, it’s in South America.”

Never in a million years did I expect them to respond with “South America? Where’s that?”

And yet, there we were.

I once mentioned polar bears wandering into towns when I was chatting with a friend, and they immediately reacted with complete horror because “polar bears???? why do you have POLAR BEARS???? aren’t those in Antarctica????”

I then had to gently explain that no, Antarctica is penguins, up north around the arctic circle is polar bears. Very different.
