they stopped dressing like vampires by the danger days era because vampires no longer represented being on the fringes of society or being deemed an unlovable dangerous monster and an outcast by collective mainstream ideology. they were instead popularized and completely thematically overhauled to no longer carry that meaning to the cultural climate of that time. to add insult to injury, edward from twilight was inspired by gerard themself while being the complete antithesis of everything gerard stood for aesthetically and ideologically. vampires instead became the villainous members of an oppressive government in the killjoys universe (the dracs), and took on the role of the ongoing systemic soulsucking and brainwashing of the masses in gerard’s own stories. dressing up as the thing that he was rebelling against in this era, on the night of this album’s thematic show, is nothing short of artistic genius.
